Have you ever pictured yourself as someone who has the ability to make the entire world wait with bated breath?
Well, your MC certainly didn’t.
Your MC’s existence is monotonous for the majority of their existence on this earth. However, since a month, things have changed. They were invited to serve on a jury in a high-profile case involving two influential people. And, then things escalated quickly. While some are envious, some others were relieved that they aren’t your MC.
It’s the final day of hearing.
The media has declared the winner.
The public has declared the winner.
Jury is almost there. Each side has an equal number of votes, and your MC is undecided and has the final say.
Go on. Write a story with this premise.
There’s just one catch: Your story should be classified as bizarro fiction.
What’s that?
The introduction to the Bizarro Starter Kit describes Bizarro as “literature’s equivalent to the cult section at the video store” and a genre that “strives not only to be strange, but fascinating, thought-provoking, and, above all, fun to read.” One weird example is a book that tells the story of a fantasy world where black snow falls in the shape of Hakenkreuz (Hooked cross Nazi symbol), and a nightmarish, fairytale version of the Auschwitz prison camp. Yes, stupid and brilliant at the same time.
All the best!
